Gau-Heppenheim

Gau- Heppenheim is a municipality in the district Alzey- Worms in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Alzey -Land.

History

Heppenheim was first documented as Hepfanheim in the year 790, when several items were awarded to the Lorsch Abbey. The former castle, which was mentioned in 1500, was completely destroyed by lightning in 1766 and subsequent fires. By the end of the 18th century the city belonged to the Count Palatine of the Rhine. Until that time, the city also Heppenheim called in the hole. In 1903, he was renamed to distinguish two other lying in the Grand Duchy of Hesse communities called Heppenheim in Gau- Heppenheim.

Religion

The Catholic parish in Gau Heppenheim St. Urban is connected to the branch community Framersheim. Anton Spiehler here was a Catholic priest, later bishop secretary, priest and canon of the Council of the Diocese of Speyer, also chancellor of the diocesan seminary and Summus Custos (Supreme guardian ) of the Speyer Cathedral. He belonged to the so-called Mainzer circle.

Culture and sights

  • The original Romanesque Catholic church of St. Urban still has a sacristy dating from 1505. On the flat ceiling from 1726 are paintings which were renewed. Only one sheet approach in the sacristy, the north wall and the gable wall in the West are obtained from the Romanesque period. The late Gothic choir is higher than the nave and executed without buttresses. It consists of a yoke and a final 5 pages of an imaginary octagon.
