Geography
Geographical location
The municipality lies in Rhenish Hesse between Worms and Mainz.
Neighboring communities
Gimbsheim borders in the north on the community of Gunter Blum, in the west on the community Alsheim and on the south by the municipality of calibration. In the East, the community Gimbsheim is bounded by the Rhine.
History
Gimbsheim was probably founded around the year 500 during the Franks under Clovis colonization of one franc named Gimmund. The place was called initially probably Gimmundheim. Over the years, the name of the place changes in the historical sources. Thus, from Gimmundheim today Gimbsheim.
Religions and denominations
The Jewish community
In Gimbsheim existed from the second half of the 19th century until after 1933, a small Jewish community. The highest number of Jewish inhabitants was around 1900/1905 with 72 people reached ( 3 % of the total population ). A synagogue was inaugurated on 27 August 1892. After 1933 it was sold and converted into a still existing residential house. At least eight of those living in Gimbsheim Jewish people came to the deportations in the era of National Socialism killed.

The local council in Gimbsheim consists of 20 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman location.

Customs
The " Gemsemer notch " is celebrated on the last weekend in September, It goes back to a centuries-long tradition. Since the 1970s, a church fete princess is elected annually.

Economy and infrastructure
Viniculture
Gimbsheim part of the " wine field Nierstein " in the Rheinhessen region. In the village 23 wineries operate, the area under vines is 118 hectares. Approximately 71 % of the cultivated wine are white wine varietals (as of 2010 ). In 1979, 84 companies were still active, the former vineyard was 191 acres.
Traffic
- In the immediate vicinity of the town of the federal highway 9, which connects Ludwigshafen am Rhein Mainz runs.
- Until 1969 Gimbsheim had a connection to the passenger on the railway line Osthofen - Rheindürkheim - Gunter Blum.
- Gimbsheim is connected via bus 432 bus Rhein-Neckar low to Gunter Blum, the other Altrhein communities as well as at Worms.
Established businesses
- MGL Metro Group Logistics GmbH Co. KG ( MGL ) with a 50,000 m² large food distribution center for 8,500 items
- HG Plumbing, Heating and Oswald GmbH: The company was founded in 1958 by Hans Gerhard Oswald and has been growing ever since. Today belongs to the company of 21 employees and an operating area of 2800 square meters for workshop, office, storage and sales rooms. The fleet consists of nine business vehicles.

Sons and daughters of the town
- Henry Hirsch ( * 1838 † unknown): Father of Harold Hirsch, counsel for the Coca Cola Company and was mitbestimmend with the introduction of the contour bottle and lettering of the shower manufacturer.
- David Moritz (1875-1956), rabbi in Bochum
- Jacob Muth (1927-1993), a professor who was known to the school system through its commitment to the integration of disabled children.
