Gau-Weinheim

Gau -Weinheim is a municipality in the district Alzey- Worms in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Woerrstadt.

Geography

The community is a wine village in the Rhine-Hessian hills at the foothills of Wißberges.

History

For the first time the city was mentioned in 767 with Wigenheim than Adalgart gave two vineyards at the monastery of Lorsch. Until 1869 was the name of low -Weinheim.

Parish council

The local council in Gau -Weinheim consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the municipality Gau- Weinheim is described as follows:

Argent, a gehenkelte blue wine jug between two red wine guides. The Gau- Weinheim crest was introduced in 1982 by decision of the local council Gau -Weinheim. It goes back to traditional court seal in 1536 and 1596. Even then, the wine jug was present as a heraldic rarely occurring motif in the form of a jug of wine, while the wine ladders were replaced by two wine trees in today's coat of arms. Both symbols have the wine as a main industry, and are, at the same canting symbol for the place name.

Structures

  • In the so-called church tower, a native of the Middle Ages, fortified tower, the place still has an old corner tower of the former church enclosing military cemetery. In 1749 he was converted into a bell tower. He previously served two confessions as a bell, while he only houses the church bell today. The special thing about him is that he gradually leans to one side - and on the basis of the in Pisa - today is called the " Leaning Tower ". In 1991, the church tower was renovated. Natural Monuments

Gau -Weinheim and Wißberg among the Rhinehessen localities about ten million year old mammal remains from the Dinotheriensanden of the ancient Rhine. Dinotheriensande are deposits that often contain teeth and bones of the animal 's trunk Dinotherium.
