General Berthelot

General Berthelot (deprecated Unirea; German Under - wolf village, Hungarian Alsófarkadin ) is a municipality in the district of Hunedoara in Transylvania, Romania.

The place is also known by its Romanian name Fărcădinul de Jos and the Hungarian Patakfarkadin.

Geographical location

The municipality of General Berthelot is located in Hatzeger Country ( Tara Hategului ), north of the Retezat Mountains. In the southern half of the circle Hunedoara, at Galbena - a tributary of the Raul Mare - and the county road (drum Judetean ) DJ 687C located, the place of small town Haţeg is about 4 kilometers west ( Hatzeg ); the district capital Deva ( Deva ) is located approximately 46 kilometers north from the village of General Berthelot.

History

The now General Berthelot called settlement was first mentioned in documents in 1369. Former names of the town were Farkadin, Alsofarkadyn, Ferkedynugyinzsosz, So - Farkadin (Romanian Fărcădinul de Jos ), and others; the place was named 1854-1922 romanian Fărcădinul de Jos. As of July 4, 1922, the town was renamed in honor of the French General Henri Mathias Berthelot General Berthelot. In 1965 he was named Unirea ( = " Union "). 2001, in the 70th year of death of the general, was again renamed after a referendum of the community residents Unirea in General Berthelot.

Population

In the 1850 census, lived on the territory of the present municipality of 1,348 people. 1,238 of these were Romanians, 68 Hungarians, three German and 39 others ( including 22 Roma). The highest population ( 1,752 ) - at the same time the Hungarians (139 ) - was reached in 1910. The highest number of Romanians ( 1,592 ) in 1930, the Germans ( 19) in 1890 and the Roma (46 ) 1930 counted. In addition, two 1880, 1890, 1992 and 2002, per an inhabitant known as Slovak. 2002 in the municipality of General Berthelot 1,020 people counted, of which 998 Romanians, three Hungarians, 18 Roma and Slovak.

Attractions

  • The Nopsca villa, was the residence of the same small noble family. According to tradition, should the bailiff fatia Neagra lived here. The villa and 60 hectares of land were given to 1922 General Berthelot (simultaneously with the awarding of the Order honorary citizen of Romania ).
