Luncoiu de Jos

Luncoiu de Jos (deprecated Lunca de Jos; Langenthal German, Hungarian Alsólunkoj ) is a municipality in the district of Hunedoara in Transylvania, Romania.

Geographical location

The community Luncoiu de Jos is by the river Luncoiu - a left tributary of the Crisul Alb ( White yelp ) - in western Transylvania in the Transylvanian Erzgebirge. At the European Route 79 and the now disused railway Deva Brad located, the location of the town Brad is about seven kilometers south ( Tannenhof ); the district capital Deva ( Deva ) is located about 30 kilometers south of Jos de Luncoiu.

History

The place Salasu de Sus was first mentioned in documents in 1439. On the basis of archaeological finds on the site of eingemeindeten village Podele, I. Martian and M. Roska are, according to G. Téglás, the history of settlement in the region, however, backdate to the Bronze Age.

The inhabitants live today mainly of animal husbandry, agriculture and wood processing.

Population

1850 lived on the territory of the present municipality of 1,943 people. 1,857 of whom were Romanian, a Hungarian, two German and 83 Roma. The highest population ( 2,636 ) - at the same time the Romanians ( 2631 ) - was reached in 1966. The highest number of Hungarians ( 24) in 1900, the Germans ( 6) in 1890 and the Roma in 1850 determined. In addition, in 1890 a three inhabitants and 1910 inhabitants identified as Slovak.

2002 there were in the church Luncoiu de Jos 2,024 people, of whom 2,012 Romanians, two Hungarians, Roma and another nine.

Attractions

  • The hunting reserve Valea Lunga, about 600 hectares was opened in 1933.
