Haniska, Košice-okolie District

Haniska ( unofficially, but also spread " Haniska pri Košiciach "; Hungarian Enyicke ) is a town in eastern Slovakia, with 1443 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). Administratively it belongs to the Okres Košice - okolie, which is a part of the district Košice kraj. According to Census 2001 (1.390 inhabitants) Haniska is almost exclusively Slovak ( 98.9 %); religiously dominated the Roman Catholic Church with 92.3 %.

Geography

The municipality is located in the basin Košická kotlina between the streams and creek Sokoliansky Belžanský creek. The municipal area is largely deforested. The center is located at an altitude of 216 m nm Haniska is 13 km from Košice.

Administratively divided the community in community Grajciar parts and Haniska.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1267 as Ezenca writing. The name is derived from the Slavic Janisko. Since the late 13th century it often changed its owners. Documents from the years 1332-1337 confirm the existence of a parish where there was already a consecrated stone church dedicated to St. Stephen. 1427 had Haniska Porta 29, 1553 there were only 19

1672 took place during a battle between the imperial forces and an army of Kuruzzen. From the late 18th century to the 1848/49 revolution Haniska was a market town with markets law. In 1828 there were 229 houses and 937 inhabitants, mainly concerned with agriculture.

Until 1919, the in- county Abaúj- Torna place belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and came afterwards to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. The end of 1925, the first radio broadcast in Slovakia was tentatively aired here. 1938-45 was the place on the basis of the First Vienna Award again in Hungary.
