Ice hockey at the 2006 Winter Olympics – Men's tournament
The competitions in ice hockey at the 2006 Winter Olympics were held in Turin. 21 of 38 games of the men were held in the hall Torino Palasport Olimpico, the other games right next door in the hall Torino Expositions.

Qualification
Three places in the Olympic ice hockey tournament for men have been purchased by means of qualifiers. The qualification was held in two rounds. In the first round of twelve teams played in three groups. Eligible teams were 18-30 on the squares of the Hockey World Ranking (as on the Ice Hockey World Championship in 2004, Italy in 19th place of the ranking was directly qualified as hosts ). As Britain renounced than 25 of the world rankings, first advanced as South Korea 31 after these waived Bulgaria than 32 of the rankings after. The three group winners of the first round met in the second round at the nine teams of 9-17 places the list. The second round was carried out in three groups of four teams. The group winners of each group were qualified for the Olympic tournament.

For the Olympic tournament, Switzerland, Latvia and Kazakhstan were qualified.
Olympic Tournament
For the Olympic men's ice hockey tournament of twelve teams were registered with 20 field players and three goalkeepers. In return, the eight best teams in the Hockey World Ranking qualified (as by the Ice Hockey World Championship in 2004 ) directly (Canada, Sweden, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Finland, USA, Russia and Germany ), plus hosts Italy came. The other three places were played in qualifying tournaments, in which, Switzerland, Latvia and Kazakhstan qualified.
The twelve teams first played in two preliminary round groups of six teams. The top four teams from each group then reached the quarter- finals and identified in the Impact in the knockout system the Olympic champion. The bronze medal winner was determined by the two losers of the semi-finals. Other placement games were not played.
