Kent County (Michigan)

Kent County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Grand Rapids.

Geography

The County is located southwest of the geographic center of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, is in the west about 45 km from Lake Michigan, one of the five great lakes, distance and has an area of ​​2259 square kilometers, of which 41 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Montcalm County, Ionia County, Barry County, Allegan County, Ottawa County, Muskegon County and Newaygo County.

History

Kent County was formed in 1831 from parts of Mackinac County and free territory. It was named after James Kent, a lawyer from New York.
