Manistee County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Manistee.

Geography

The County is located in the northwest of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, on the west by Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes, and has an area of ​​3317 square kilometers, of which 1909 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Benzie County, Wexford County, Lake County and Mason County.

History

Manistee County was formed in 1840 from parts of Mackinac County. It was named after the Manistee River.
