Manuel Mejuto González

Manuel Enrique Mejuto González ( born April 16, 1965 in La Felguera, Langreo, Asturias ) is a former Spanish football referee. His most important mission was the management of the final match of the UEFA Champions League 2005 between Liverpool and AC Milan.

In the Football World Cup 2006, he did not play, since two of his three assistants fell during a fitness test of FIFA.

At the European Championship qualifier between Scotland and Italy on 17 November 2007 at Hampden Park in Glasgow underwent him and his assistant referees some serious mistakes at the expense of Scotland. According to some experts it would have cost to participate in the 2008 European Football Championship, however he was finally summoned by UEFA as one of only twelve referees for the finals. He was assisted in the management of the games of his assistant Juan Carlos Yuste Jiménez and Jesús Calvo Guadamuro. On June 9, he led the match between Romania and France. The match between Austria and Germany was on 16 June in Vienna under his leadership. In this game, he referred, after consultation with the fourth official ( Damir Skomina ), the coaches of both teams on the whistle. Germany coach Joachim Loew and Austria coach Josef Hickersberger, whose team was, however, already eliminated from the tournament, has subsequently been banned by UEFA for a game.
