Mehring, Rhineland-Palatinate

Mehring on the Mosel is a municipality in the Trier -Saar castle in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Schweich on the Roman wine road. Mehring is a nationally recognized tourist.

The origin of the place name

Many old settlements on the Moselle are of Roman origin. Evidence of these roots are in addition to the manifold excavation finds from this period, the naming of the individual towns and villages. Attractions

In the district of Mehring was on the Roman road a villa rustica, which can be visited as a reconstruction. About the original remains of the portico area was rebuilt.

In the district Lörsch remains of an extensive Roman Bauanlage were excavated, which extended to about 600 m along the bank of the Moselle.

Links of Mosel company specialized on the gentle slopes in the Middle Ages with the wine, while the right side of the Moselle rather served the agricultural and livestock sector. Economy

Mehring is significantly influenced by winegrowing and with 237 hectares under vine Piesport, cell, Leiwen, Konz and Neumagen -Dhron fifth largest wine-growing town of Mosel.
