Ohrekreis

The Ohrekreis was a district in the north-west of Saxony- Anhalt. On 1 July 2007 it was merged with the Bördekreis the new district beading under the Administrative Reform in Saxony- Anhalt. Neighboring districts were in the north of the Altmark Salzwedel and the district of Stendal, in the eastern district Jerichower country, in the south the county-level city of Magdeburg and the Bördekreis and to the west the district of Helmstedt in Lower Saxony and in the northwest of Gifhorn.

Geography

The territory of the lay Ohrekreis near Magdeburg and the Colbitz - Letzlinger Heath. The county was named after the river tubes that ran parallel to the Mittelland Canal from west to east through the district area and led to the Elbe. In the west and the River Aller flowed through the county.

Economy

As part of the Magdeburg district area was mainly agricultural. Around Magdeburg and Haldensleben created large industrial parks, especially in the vicinity of the A2 motorway.

Traffic

By the district ran both highway (A2 and A14 ) and railway connections, which touched the state capital Magdeburg. Furthermore ran through the county territory of the Mittelland Canal. The Greater Magdeburg was connected by the S-Bahn to the city of Magdeburg.

History

The county was created in 1994 by combining the counties Haldensleben and Wolmirstedt. There were still some municipalities of the blocks. The first and only Chief Executive of the new circle was the former district administrator Wolmirstedt, Thomas Webel ( CDU).

1680-1806 corresponded to the present district area around the Brandenburg wood circle.

In the district reform in 2007, the Ohrekreis was with its southern neighbor, the Bördekreis, merged. The name of the new circle is the district of Borde.

Coat of arms

Blazon: " oblique Links Divided by wave cut red over silver, above a silver fünfblättriger book branch, below a blue wave swash links bar. "

The approval of the coat of arms was made on 11 May 1995.

The blue wave swash links bar symbolizes the river tubes, the cross winds through the county territory that crosses three cities Oebisfelde, Haldensleben and Wolmirstedt and the district its name. The book is the large branch of the beech woodlands Flechtinger ridge. The circle colors red and white are derived from the colors of the Archdiocese or the Duchy of Magdeburg, which included the majority of the Ohrekreis.
