Paul Sarbanes

Paul Spyros Sarbanes ( born February 3, 1933, Salisbury, Maryland ) is a former American politician of the Democratic Party. He was from 1977 to 2007 U.S. Senator for Maryland; earlier he had from 1971 a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The son of Greek immigrants, was the one Senator with the longest tenure ever done for the state of Maryland; for re-election in 2006, he did not start.

Characteristic of Sarbanes is its restrained policy, which usually shuns the general public. According to him, the Sarbanes -Oxley Act is named, which should restore confidence in the economy after the accounting scandals in the United States. Had begun his political career in 1967 with the entry into the House of Representatives from Maryland, where he remained until 1971.

Sarbanes ' son John is also active as a politician and has represented Maryland in 2007 as an MP in the U.S. House of Representatives.
