Piaggio P.6

The Piaggio P.6 was a naval reconnaissance aircraft Piaggio Aero Industries of the Italian manufacturer.

History and construction

The Regia Marina wrote from a two-seat reconnaissance aircraft that could be launched from a catapult and aircraft should land on the water. To respond to this tender, Piaggio has produced two models. The first prototype was called P.6bis was a small biplane with a boat-shaped hull and was a behind the open cockpit built between the wings 190 kW payable V-6 piston engine Isotta Fraschini with a pusher propeller driven.

The unit is called P.6 second prototype was a seaplane with a central main float and two auxiliary floats under the wings. The engine was installed in the bow of abgestrebten biplane. The wings were almost identical in both models.

Both aircraft had to defend a machine gun, which was mounted in a movable Bugstand in P.6bis and at the P.6 in the rear cockpit. As of 1928, the P.6ter was produced on the basis of P.6, with a more powerful engine with 306 kW was used. A total of 15 P.6ter were produced, which were used in the Italian Navy on battleships and cruisers.
