Plöwen

Plöwen is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Greifswald in the extreme southeast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The community is managed by the Office Löcknitz Penkun based in the community Löcknitz.

Geography

The community is located between the Plöwen Randowbruch and the border with the Republic of Poland. The location in a wooded landscape offers good opportunities for nature lovers. History

The first settlement on the boundary Plöwen can be traced back at least to the Germanic period. Thus, depending on a burial ground from the Pre-Roman Iron Age and the early Roman Empire known. The farming village was built in the 13th century and belonged to the Duchy of Pomerania, parts of the community in the meantime to Uckermark. 1472 gave Margrave Achillis the castle Löcknitz with the associated lands - this included Plöwen - the nobleman Werner von Schulenburg. Prince Bogusław X of Pomerania procured Margrave the revision of the gift of this manor, so the village in Brandenburg and Pomerania subjects was divided. After frequent change Vorpommern landlords came in 1720 to Prussia. French colonists settled in the 18th century and formed their own French Reformed congregation. 1848 burned down the whole village, 1852, the church was rebuilt again. While the population in 1937 was approximately 300, it rose at the end of World War 2 on the basis of the refugees to over 1000 and adopted in the following years again.

In the municipal elections in December 1950, the Democratic Farmers' Party of Germany prevailed, one of the block parties in the GDR.
