Pokrovsk, Sakha Republic

Pokrowsk (Russian Покровск, Yakut Покровскай / Pokrowskaj ) is a city in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia ) (Russia) with 9495 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the south of Mitteljakutischen valley, about 75 km southwest of the capital of Republic of Yakutsk on the left bank of the Lena.

The city is Pokrowsk the Republic administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the Rajons ( Ulus ) Hangalasskij.

History

Pokrowsk was of Cossack as Ostrog Karaulny Mys (Russian for Sentinel Cape ) founded in 1682.
