Roberts Jekimovs

Jekimovs Roberts ( born November 11, 1989 in Riga, Latvian SSR) is a Latvian ice hockey player who is since August 2013 in Tampere Ilves in the Finnish SM- liiga under contract.

Career

Jekimovs Roberts began his career at HK Riga 2000, for whom he played in the 2004/05 season in the Latvian U18 Hockey League. He then moved to SK Riga 20, a team that mainly composed of players of the Latvian U20 selection. For SK Riga 20 he spent the next three years and played in the Latvian Hockey League. He became a prolific attacker, so he scored 14 goals and 12 assists in the season 2006 /07 in 48 games. In the following season, the club played its due to a new sponsor as SK LSPA / Riga, Jekimovs reach even 19 goals and 34 assists, so he was leading scorer and second- best scorer of his team.

Due to the benefits shown Jekimovs was taken in summer 2008 in the U20 squad Brynäs IF for which he completed 45 games in the Superelit where reach ten goals and eleven assists him. The Junior Brynäs IF reached the end of the season winning the Swedish Junior Championship.

During the KHL Junior Draft 2009 Dinamo Riga KHL secured the rights to Jekimovs. Then this came in the summer of 2009 in Latvia back and got a contract with Dinamo, but played exclusively for their farm team, the Dinamo- Juniors Riga in the Belarusian Extraliga. In January 2010, he joined the Finnish second division Jokipojat. There he was able to convince, especially in the 2010/11 season, when he was in 47 games 43 scorer points, including 24 goals scored. For the following season, he was engaged by Jokerit of the SM- liiga Lappeenranta.

Jekimovs is considered technically adept player with a strong shot that needs to improve his defensive game yet.

Internationally

Early in his career took Jekimovs his country in international tournaments. He participated in two U18 - U20 and three World Championships. He managed both at the U18 World Cup in 2006, and in the U20 World Cup 2007 with the respective Latvian youth team moved up from Division I to the A World Championship.

In 2009 he was a permanent member of the Latvian national team and took age of 19 participated in the 2009 World Cup.
