Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta
The Archdiocese of Atlanta (Latin: Archidioecesis Atlantensis ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church.
Past and present
Located in the USA Atlanta Archdiocese was established on July 2, 1956 by a division of the Diocese of Savannah -Atlanta in 1959 and counted 24 414 Catholics (1.4%) in 26 parishes with 31 diocesan priests, 78 religious priests and 174 nuns.
Collected on February 10, 1962 Archdiocese, and thus removed a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, it received the bishoprics of Charleston, Charlotte, Raleigh and Savannah to suffragan dioceses.
With its 55,521 km ² the Archdiocese comprises a total of 69 counties in northern Georgia.
