Salm, Germany

Salm in the Vulkan Eifel is a municipality in the volcanic Eifel region of Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Gerolstein.

Geography

The municipality is located in the landscape " Salmer hills ", which is part of the East Eifel. Near the place where the river Salm, which flows into the Moselle at Klüsserath springs. Salm also includes the residential places Forestry House Salm, Friedorfer yard and Lindenhof.

History

The village of Salm was first mentioned in 1225 in a document of the Abbey Himmerod.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: "In a blue shield above a rather inverted silver fish, down a golden hunting horn ".

The fish represents a Salm and points to the river Salm name, which flows through the district, as well as on the place name itself. The Hift or hunting horn is on St. Hubertus, the churches and local patron of Salm point.

Permission to run their own local church coat of arms was granted by the district administration on 11 May 1992.
