Ellscheid

Ellscheid is a municipality in the volcanic Eifel region of Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Daun.

Geography

Ellscheid is located in the Eifel and to the east of the nature reserve "Between Ueß and Kyll " north of Pulvermaars. Destination is the nature reserve Mürmes. The Mürmes is a wetland between Ellscheid, Saxler and Mehren. To Ellscheid includes the residential places Hünenhof and Waldhof.

Archeology

In the district of Ellscheid there are a number of Celtic burial mounds, the oldest of the Hallstatt period (6th -7th centuries BC ), and are assigned to the Hunsrück- Eifel culture. Some of the time of origin is still undetermined. Further finds from the Roman period have been made.

In the north of the village lying grave mound field "stack break" are over 30 grave mounds unknown time position, which have a height of up to 2 meters and a circumference of about 30 meters.

An extended Grabhügelnekropole of at least 35 grave mounds in two groups located in the "red veins ", also north of Ellscheid. They date from the early Iron Age ( 6th century BC). Three of the grave mounds were excavated in 1888 by Felix Hettner. Two inhumations were discovered with small additions.

Five other grave hill to the northwest of the village in the district of "Moss Wood ". During an excavation in 1966, only small charcoal and ceramic remains were found. Nearby is a feature-packed with ceramic cremation grave was discovered with brick plate changeover, which was associated with the last quarter of the 1st century AD.

Southeast of Ellscheid towards Gillenfeld a grave mound was leveled in 1961, which was previously investigated by the Rheinische Landesmuseum Trier. Two fire pits were found, on the basis of the grave goods of the grave mound was dated AD to the second half of the 1st century.

An already since 1854 known reference in the " Strothflur " ( south of the village toward Gille field) was investigated geomagnetic by scientists at the University of Cologne. History

The first documentary mention under the name " Hedelscheit " took place in 1136, as Adalbero of Basel ( 1131-1136 ) gave the Abbey of St. Mary in a forest Prüm and earlier donations confirmed. 1563 included the town under the name Elscheid 13, 1684 twelve fireplaces. Clubs
