Samoded

Samoded (Russian Самодед ) is an urban-type settlement in North West Russia. The place belongs to the Arkhangelsk Oblast and has 1518 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ). It is located in Rajon Plesetsk.

Geography

Samoded is located about 190 kilometers south of the Oblasthauptstadt Arkhangelsk, on the river Waimuga ( Ваймуга ), which over the river Jemza ( Емца ) is on the left side to the Northern Dvina. The town of Plesetsk, the administrative center of the raion, located 137 km south of Samoded.

History

The town was the construction of a sawmill in 1925, originally as a Lesopunkt ( лесопункт ), so it was a labor settlement for local workers in the wood industry. At the same time Samoded received with the construction of the railway station Permilowo ( Пермилово ) connection to the railway rail network. In 1927, the city received the status of an urban-type settlement and the name Samoded, named after the military hero Grigory Ivanovich Commissioner Civil War Samoded. In 1929 Samoded part of Rajon Plesetsk. In addition to the timber industry were agriculture and livestock at the time of the main economic activity.

Economy and infrastructure

The companies of the wood industry are still the main employer in the settlement. The infrastructure of the village is poorly developed, so there are often problems with the power supply. There is no mobile phone reception.

In the southern part Samodeds is the railway station Permilowo, a station of the Northern Railway on the route Konosha - Arkhangelsk, between the stations Oboserski and Cholmogorskaja.
