San Benito County, California
The San Benito County is a county located in the state of California, United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is in Hollister.
Geography
The County is located in the hinterland of the California coastal range, near its western border runs the full length of the San Andreas Fault. Notable villages are only in the extreme north, which lies closest to the Pacific coast and now belongs to the catchment area of the Bay Area around San Francisco. In San Juan Bautista is the historic Spanish mission, Mission San Juan Bautista, on the western border of the county is located in the Gabilan Mountains to the Pinnacles National Park, a nature reserve of the covenant with particular importance for birds of prey.
The County is bordered on the north by Santa Clara County and Santa Cruz County, on the east by Fresno County and the Merced County and to the south and west by the Monterey County.
History
The San Benito County was formed from the Monterey County. Father Juan Crespi named the river in present-day County San Benidicto that the County gave the name.

According to the census of 2000, there were 53 234 people in San Benito County. There were 15,885 households, and 12,898 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 65.17 % White, 1.08 % African American, 1.16 % Native American, 2.40 % Asian, 0.19 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 24.87 % from other races groups; 5.14% were descended from two or more races. 47.93 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 15,885 households out of which 46.30 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 65.70 % were married couples living together, 10.50% had a female householder with no husband. 18.80% were non-families. 14.10% of all households and 5.40% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.32 and the average family size was 3.64 persons.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 32.20 % under the age of 18, 8.80 % from 18 to 24, 31.50% from 25 to 44 years, 19.30 % between 45 and 64 years and 8.10% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 102.50 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.60 males.
The median income for a household was $ 57,469, and the median income for a family was $ 60,665. Males had a median income of $ 44,158, women $ 29,524. The per capita income was $ 20,932. 10.00 % percent of the population and 6.70% of families are below the poverty line. 11.40% of those under age 18 and 8.50% were 65 years or older.
