Silver Slugger Award

The Silver Slugger Award is an award in the U.S. professional baseball league Major League Baseball. It is awarded annually since 1980 to the most offensive baseball player, the best " Slugger ". The trophy is a stylized, three-foot long silver baseball bats of the Hillerich & Bradsby Company, maker of the Louisville Slugger baseball bat.

Selection mode

Choice is open to all coaches and managers of the MLB. Relevant are offensive statistics such as home runs, batting average, on- base percentage or slugging percentage. No coach or manager may choose a player of his own club. Each year a complete baseball team is in both the National League and the American League voted ( pitcher / designated hitter, catcher, first base, second base, third base, shortstop, three outfielders ), so that a total of 18 Silver Slugger Awards are presented.

Two features are observed. First, it is at the Outfieldern irrelevant which exact field position (Right Field, Center Field, Left Field ) they play, so that, for example, six right fielder could all Silver Slugger Awards win. Second, there are in the American League the so-called designated hitter who is always on in the campaign for the pitcher, accordingly, the Silver Slugger Award is not awarded to the offensive strongest throwers, but the most offensive designated hitter.
