Slovianoserbsk

Slowjanoserbsk (Ukrainian Слов'яносербськ; Russian Славяносербск / Slawjanoserbsk ) is an urban-type settlement in the Luhansk Oblast in eastern Ukraine. It has 7,431 inhabitants (2013 ) and is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons. The city is located in the Donets Basin, on the right bank of the Donets 32 km northwest of Luhansk Oblastzentrum. The nearest train station is in Symohirja 15 km south of the town.

History

Founded Slowjanoserbsk of Serbian Hussars under the name Pidhirne (Ukrainian Підгірне ) in 1753 as the seat of the local high command of the Nowoslobidskyj Cossack Regiment, a territorial-administrative and military unit in Ukraine, to the borders of the Russian state from the attacks of to protect the Turks and Tatars.

1784 Town City and in Donezke (Ukrainian Донецьке ) has been renamed. In the 19th century the city was the administrative center of Ujesd Slowjanoserbsk Governorate Jekaterinoslaw. In 1817 the city received the name Slowjanosserbske (Ukrainian Слов'яносербське ) and 1883 they lost the city status. 1960, the place was then an urban-type settlement and since the founding of the Rajons 1966 Rajonzentrum.

Slowjanoserbsk is the administrative center of the 1966 founded the same name Rajons. The Rajon Slowjanoserbsk located in the center of the Luhansk Oblast and has 55 199 inhabitants ( November 2012 ). The area is 1113 km ² and the population density is 50 inhabitants per km ².
