Splash (Festival)

The splash! Festival is a Hip- Hop and Reggae Festival. Up to and including 2006, there took place every year at the reservoir Oberrabenstein near Chemnitz. In the years 2007 and 2008 found the splash! due to heavy rains in previous years and the associated financial crisis rather than on the Pouch peninsula in Bitterfeld. Since 2009 this has splash! on the peninsula Ferropolis at Graefenhainichen a new venue.

History

In 1998, that was the splash! organized for the first time, then. still as a single event within the city of Chemnitz in the former power station on the road Zwickau As of 1999, the open-air music festival is always held on the slopes of Oberrabenstein Steiner reservoir.

In the early years there was one stage for hip-hop and reggae. In 2006, there were already two stages with various competitions and performances by the artists as well as two party tents.

The preferred genres are hip- hop, reggae and drum and bass. Furthermore, the splash is hosted alternately for interim and finals of the ITF World Championships for DJs Festival - among others in the category scratching.

Another highlight of the splash! Splash the name! thought the creators of the festival because of the venue. Festival ".

The festival was in addition to the Mozart days the only nationally perceived multi-day music festival in Chemnitz. The Chemnitz hip-hop fan base grew steadily. 2006 the festival is held for the ninth time in Chemnitz. Chronology

It all began in a small circle of friends Chemnitz. The Chemnitz hip-hoppers Tefla & Jaleel and her friends were in the mood for a real hip-hop festival, but on the former festival ran only music that they did not hear or did not want to hear. On 18 July 1998, was the first splash! instead; though not as planned as an open- air festival, but in the middle of the city of Chemnitz, in the former power station on the Zwickau road. Since then, the hip- hop scene was still very small, succeeded to the initiators, through contacts known artist for Splash! to get to Chemnitz. 1999 found the splash! the first time on July 23 and 24 near the reservoir in Oberrabenstein held after which the number of visitors increased to 13,000. The third splash! 2000 of 21st - 23rd July were already counted 20,000 visitors. 2005 was the festival of 5th - 7th Of August at the reservoir Oberrabenstein. There were some strong rains. A year later, again falling on the splash! Festival 2006 again strong rains and overthrow the organizers in a jeopardizing crisis. A donation account has been set up and the charity concert "save splash! " applied. On 3 November, the Arena Chemnitz was then the venue for the " Save- splash! " Benefit concert. For free participation to the Chemnitz Robert Schumann Philharmonie had agreed. Supported by the also waiving their fees artist Samy Deluxe, Beginner, Curse, Tefla & Jaleel, Azad, Spezializtz and Toni L & Torch so was a new edition of the successful " splash! meets classic " nothing in the way. After the financial crisis in 2006 and cover the losses in the amount of 70 % by input of donations was announced on 11 January 2007 that the festival takes place, not in Chemnitz but on the Pouch peninsula in Bitterfeld. The period over which was laid from the first weekend in August to the first weekend in July. Due to the difficult economic situation and the considerable increase in costs in 2008 were the organizers to shorten before deciding the festival to two days or raise the ticket prices. After a public poll on the homepage of the organizer, the organizers have taken the decision to leave the festival in three days. Two thirds of all respondents for this variant and so the splash! Festival 2009 took place from July 10 to 12 on the Pouch peninsula in Dessau instead. Nevertheless, there was an additional stage right on the water and an improved situation in the campground (among other things, visitors were allowed for the first time the car with you on the campground ). On 1 July 2009, a week before the splash! 2009, the organizers decided to move the venue of Pouch to Ferropolis, where for many years the " Melt Festival " took place. The reasons were the splash! Team financial benefits, more space for stages, Sports & Culture ( skate park ) and better camping facilities (camping next to the car ) to. From 23 to 25 July 2010, the 13th was Splash! Festival held in Ferropolis. Approximately 15,000 visitors celebrated artists such as Missy Elliott, Wu -Tang Clan, Nas & Damian Marley, Samy Deluxe, Gentleman and Kool Savas. From 8 to July 10, 2011 was the 14th Splash! Festival back in Ferropolis. There were artists like Kraftklub, KIZ, Casper, Marteria, Prinz Pi, Dendemann, Cypress Hill, Public Enemy, The Orson, Aloe Blacc, Samy Deluxe, Yelawolf, Big Boi and onyx.

The 15th splash! Festival was held from 6 to 8 July 2012 in Ferropolis instead. Just two days before the start of the festival were the tickets, after many years, sold out.

Financial crisis

Since the splash! 2006 again suffered like in 2005 under heavy rains, had the splash! Asked Entertainment AG on 9 January 2007, the meeting of creditors of the insolvency proceedings to make a comparison. According to a newspaper Chemnitz, the debt amounted to over € 500,000. The Splash! Entertainment AG has asked for assistance. A donation account has been set up and a benefit concert took place on 3 November in the " Chemnitz Arena ," which visited 4000 fans and the amount of donations brought to a total of € 325,000 ( 65%). Besides the many Splash fans also donated many well-known artists such as Robert Schumann Philharmonie, Samy Deluxe, Jan Delay, and more.

After the success of the benefit concert, the Robert -Schumann- Philharmonie donated a violin on the all "Splash Meets Classic " Acts signed, this was auctioned on 13 November 2006 on eBay to a Chemnitz and brought € 1,350.
