Tatari, Tallinn
Tatari ( German for " Tatar [ district ]") is a district (Estonian asum ) of the Estonian capital Tallinn. It is located in the district Kesklinn ( "downtown" ).
Description and History
Tatari has 1,781 inhabitants (as of 1 May 2010).
In Tatari are among other things the cinema Kosmos, the Estonian Music and Theatre Academy, the U.S. Embassy in Estonia and the Liivalaia Gümnaasium.
The name was given to the municipality of the Tatari Street, which runs through the district. After the Russian conquest of Estonia in the 18th century, the tsarist authorities were there for a camp stationed in Tallinn Tatars invest later Tatar Sloboda.
