Tormac

Tormac (1924 Voicu, German Rittenberg, Hungarian Végvár ) is a municipality in Timiş, Banat, Romania. The municipality includes the villages Tormac Cadar and Sipet.

Location

Tormac located in the southeast of the circle Timiş, combines on the road DJ 592 Buziaş with Gătaia. The distance to the district capital Timişoara is 38 kilometers.

History

The village was founded in 1784-1786 during Joseph II settlement of German colonists under the name Rittenberg, according to an Austrian general who. Due to civil unrest in 1791, the German colonists were resettled in Darova. Only eight German families remained in Rittenberg. In the abandoned houses of the German Reformed 78 Hungarian families came from Csanád, Csongrad and Békés. The foundation stone of the Reformed Church of Rittenberg was laid in 1794 and completed in 1888. The organ dates from Carl Leopold Wegenstein. After the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1876 Rittenberg was renamed the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding location in Végvár. After the Treaty of Trianon, as the Banat was divided into three parts, two thirds of Romania, the village was named first Tormac Voicu, then after an ancient village called " tormas " on the territory of the present village.
