Velké Losiny

Velké Losiny ( German: United Ullersdorf ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located eight kilometers north of Šumperk in the foothills of the Jeseníky and belongs to Okres Šumperk. Velké Losiny is also known as a spa. The community is a member of the Association of Municipalities Svazek obcí 's Valley Desne.

History

Although the hot sulfur springs of Great Ullersdorf are supposed to have been known to the Romans, it is only first mentioned in 1351. It was sovereign's reign and 1496, first as a pledge, from 1507 held by the Lords of Žerotín. John of Zerotin built on the site of a Gothic water castle and a Renaissance castle with a magnificent arcaded courtyard, whose outer walls are decorated with rich sgraffito ornamentation.

Johann the Younger of Žerotín led in 1592 to build a bathhouse at the spa. After the Battle of White Mountain in United Ullersdorf went to the noble family of Liechtenstein, of which it was able to acquire in a short time John of Zerotin. After the Thirty Years' War the castle was the scene of the infamous witch trials.

The Zerotin kept large Ullersdorf until 1802. Thereafter, it was again in the possession of Liechtenstein, which were expropriated in 1945.

Economic importance was next to the bathing the paper mill built in 1596, the building was rebuilt in the late 18th century in the style of the late Baroque. It is one of the few remaining and still produces handmade paper by the traditional method. The building since 1987 houses a museum of paper, in which the production is presented of handmade paper.

The municipality consists of the villages Velké Losiny Bukovice ( Buchelsdorf ) Ludvíkov ( Ludwigsthal ) Maršíkov ( Marschendorf ) Velké Losiny ( United Ullersdorf ) and Žárová (formerly Nová Ves, German Neudorf Wies. ). To Žárová belong nor the local documents Horni Bohdíkov (formerly Německý Bohdíkov, German German village in March ) and Prameny (formerly Štolnava, German Stollenhau ).
