Williamson County (Illinois)

The Williamson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2010, the County had 66 362 inhabitants and a population density of 60.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Marion.

Geography

The County is located in southern Illinois, about 60 miles from the Mississippi River and 70 kilometers away from the Ohio River. It has an area of 1151 square kilometers, of which 54 square kilometers are water surface. At the Williamson County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Williamsom County was formed on February 28, 1839, from the Franklin County. Since many new settlers came from Tennessee, they named this County to the Williamson County, Tennessee.
