World record progression 100 metres freestyle

The swimming world records in the 100 meters freestyle are the best in the swimming discipline 100m freestyle swum times. They are recognized by the International Swimming Federation FINA. World records are kept separate for long paths ( 50 m) and short tracks ( 25 m) and separately for men and women. The following are the world-record development is listed for the respective first recognized world record.
