1929 German football championship

The twenty-second German football championship was finished very late as last year. It was not until the end of July it was clear the new German champion. However, the reason this time was not the participation of the national team at a major football tournament, but the extremely cold winter, through which the game plans in the regions messed came. Therefore, most regional representatives were determined until the end of May and, consequently, the final round could only begin on June 9.

A further delay was due to the semi-finals. In the duel between Hertha BSC and 1 FC Nuremberg there had been no winner after 150 minutes of play and the game had to be repeated, which postponed the finals again for two weeks.

The title fights brought a new, but also tragic record. As the first German team Hertha BSC reached for the fourth time in a row the finals; however, left the team also for the fourth time as a loser on the pitch. However, the result was almost beside the point in this final. The DFB had forgiven the final duel to Nuremberg. The followers of the first FCN believed the semi-final defeat against Hertha (it was the first real defeat of the Nuremberg at a Championship finals and the first time that they did not reach the final of a participation ) had been due to wrong decisions of the referee and prepared the Berliners with a hostile and hateful reception. The game was several times shortly before the crash. It was also not surprising that Hertha drew the short straw for the second time against Fürth. It was the third title for the SpVgg and the eighth championship for the region of Nuremberg / Fürth.

When ATSB laurel Hamburg celebrated his first title win in the German Gymnastics Association championship went to TV 1846 Mannheim. The German youth force played this year again no master.
