1939 New York World's Fair

Trylon and Perisphere look at

The New York World's Fair ( NYWF ) of 1939/40, was a World's Fair that from 30 April to 31 October, and in 1940 from May 11 to October 27 held in New York in 1939. It is considered the largest World's Fair, which has so far taken place. The exhibition showed 44,932,978 visitors.

On the occasion of the exhibition of Flushing Meadows Park was opened. Landmark exhibition Trylon and Perisphere were an acute obelisk and a large white ball in the Democracity, the city of the future was shown. Theme Park had created the architect Wallace K. Harrison and Jacques André Fouilhoux.

History

At 486.4 acres 1500 exhibitors from 33 countries presented their products and projects. Under the motto "Building the World of Tomorrow, For Peace and Freedom - all Eyes to the Future" should show how they imagined the world would be in 1960, the issuing States. Among the technologies presented included television, soft ice cream, electric dishwasher, the fax machine, intelligent traffic control and the robot electric Westinghouse Electric. China and Germany did not participate in the World's Fair, because China against Japan was at war and the Nazi Germany refused to participate in a predominantly organized by Jews exhibition. The New York Mayor LaGuardia suggested the construction of a " chamber of horrors " that was to show the true face of Nazi Germany. When this plan failed, hit exhibition director Grover Whalen ago, a group of German emigrants to Klaus Mann should a "Freedom Pavilion " build. But the emigrants scene was so hopelessly at odds over what should be shown in the pavilion on the resistance against Hitler, that this idea was discarded.
