1943–44 Mexican Primera División season

The season 1943/44, was the first season of products imported into Mexico Professional Football League and changed its name at that time still under the name Liga Mayor.

The first match

The first games were played on 17 October 1943 and saw the following matches:

  • España vs Moctezuma 2:3
  • Vera Cruz vs. Marte 3:3
  • A.D.O. vs América 1:6
  • Atlas vs Asturias 2:4

The match between Atlante and Guadalajara (1:4) was held only four days later ( on 21 October).

Records

At that time the football was not so much influenced by tactics, so that fell significantly more goals than is the case today. In the 90 matches scored 449 goals, so almost exactly five goals were scored per game ( 4.99). A single game ( against Atlante Marte ) and only ended goalless in 15 games did not make one of the teams to score a goal. Most often without their own hits Marte remained ( five times), followed by Atlante (four times ). These two teams also scored the fewest goals ( 32 Marte, Atlante 28). But Atlante was not only the team with the fewest goals, but also the fewest goals against (31 ) and played three times to zero. Also in three games without conceding a goal remained Atlas. In contrast Master Asturias abode in any match without conceding a goal, but scored 57 goals and so was the most successful forward line behind the " Spanish rival " España, whose team scored 70 goals.

Games with Most Goals

  • Most goals scored in the match between España and Veracruz ( 9:3 )
  • Biggest home win: A.D.O. vs. Atlas 9:2
  • Biggest away win: A.D.O. España vs 2:8

Decision-making

In the final table, the " Spanish " clubs Asturias España and occupied tied the first two places. Because to nominate the master goal difference did not apply, a play was needed, which ruled in Asturias 4-1 in his favor.
