1961–62 Intertoto Cup
The 1st International Football Cup was played in the 1961/62 season. The competition consisted of 32 teams, mostly exclusively from Central Europe.
The German Democratic Republic, the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland and Czechoslovakia entsendteten 4, 2 Poland and the Federal Republic of Germany 6 teams.
The final was won by Ajax Amsterdam by 4-2 against Feyenoord Rotterdam.
Group stage
The teams were divided into eight groups, each with 4 teams on the geographic location. The groups A1- A4 were for eastern teams ( German Democratic Republic, Austria, Poland and Czechoslovakia); Groups B1 -B4 for western teams (the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland ). The Federal Republic of Germany was represented in two sections.
The group winners reached the quarterfinals, where the action groups "A" against the group "B".
