1965–66 Bundesliga

The season 1965/66 was the third season of the men of the German Bundesliga. German champion was the TSV 1860 München. Top scorer was Lothar Emmerich Borussia Dortmund with 31 hits.

Season overview

1860 Munich dominated the first half of the season and was from 8 to 22 Matchday continuously to square one. With a first round score of 29:5 points the Lions set a record which was surpassed only in the season 2005/ 06 FC Bayern Munich ( 44 points after 3 points rule, 30:4 after 2 points rule ). However, after a period of weakness in the second half, the team fell in the meantime behind Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich in third place back. Dortmund took over on 23 Round the standings, but lost after the European Cup victory in Glasgow the last three games. The 2-0 victory for the Lions in Dortmund took the penultimate round of the 1860 Munich re standings and the preliminary decision in the championship.

On the very first day of play the very first derby of Bundesliga history took place: 1860 Munich met the newcomer Bayern Munich, who had risen from the Regional. Already after 30 seconds Konietzka scored the only goal in the game, the Lions won 1-0. Purely mathematically, this result was decisive for the outcome of the season, as Bayern had won the game, the later record champions would have come up with more points than the 1860 and would have fetched according to the title.

The SC Tasmania 1900 Berlin, moved up to replace the due to license withdrawal zwangsabgestiegenen local rivals Hertha BSC in the league, presented several negative records: With only 2 wins and 28 defeats, the club was by far the last and had just as Borussia Neunkirchen dismount. Only through the draw at 1 FC Kaiserslautern team scored a point gain on foreign court ( the first FCK turn was the only club who failed this season to win against Tasmania Berlin, both games ended in a draw ). Tasmania Berlin also presented on the valid to date spectator negative record; at the home game against Borussia Monchengladbach on January 15, 1966 only 827 visitors to the stadium were counted. The 9:0 Meidericher of SV in Tasmania Berlin marked the today highest away win in Bundesliga history.

In contrast, should the other two climbers, FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Moenchengladbach, establish in the coming years as the top teams in the league.
