The Race for the 28th Vuelta a España was held in sections 22 and 3060.8 miles from 26 April to 13 May 1973. The winner was Belgian Eddy Merckx, the mountain competition was won by José Luis Abilleira. The sprint, the meta Floaters - rating and the combined score also won Eddy Merckx and the team La casera won the team classification.
