Master of the Austrian Hockey League 1979/80 was for the twentieth time the EC KAC, the so successfully defended the title.

Mode

The eight teams played in the regular season four times against each other. The top four teams qualified for the four- round champion round, the remaining four played in the relegation group in two rounds of the fate in the Bundesliga. The teams took depending on the placement in the regular season 4, 3, 2 and 1 bonus points.
