Background

Through a pit stop he fell in the 24th round back to sixth place, but came within eight rounds back up to fourth place, behind Mansell, Senna and Prost forward. Another nine laps later he overtook Prost.

On lap 41 accident Andrea de Cesaris lying heavy in a promising position in the Abbey curve, but the accident survived unharmed.

Since Senna retired on the last lap due to lack of fuel, Berger was finished second behind the victorious Mansell, who scored a hat-trick. Prost finished third ahead of Senna, who was considered a fourth due to its distance traveled. Nelson Piquet and Bertrand Gachot reached the fifth and sixth.

During his lap of honor took the departed Mansell Senna on the side box of his car with the parc fermé.
