Emanuele Pirro
Emanuele Pirro ( born January 12, 1962 in Rome ) is an Italian race car driver.
Career
His entry into the motorsport made Pirro mid-1970s in karting. 1976 and 1979 he was Italian karting champion. In the following years he rose through the formula 3, 1988 with McLaren - Honda as test driver in Formula 1 Formula 2, Formula 3000 and various touring car championships.
Pirro had in 1987 tried to compete with the British Team Middle Bridge Trussardi in Formula 1; However, the project was not permitted. 1989 Pirro played for Benetton - Ford its first Formula 1 season. In the next two years, he started for the Italian team Scuderia Italia BMS. Overall, he was qualified for 37 Grand Prix starts and took three championship points. His best Formula 1 World Championship placement was the 18th World Cup rank in the season 1991.
In 1992, Pirro from Formula racing to touring car racing. In 1992 he took BMW a season at the German Touring Car Championship ( DTM ) part. In 1999, Pirro with an Audi R8 at its first 24 - hour race at Le Mans part. In the three years that followed, he could win with his teammate Tom Kristensen and Frank Biela the race.
In 2004, he started alongside Frank Biela for Team Joest with an Audi A4 in DTM.
In 2006 and 2007 he won together with Frank Biela (D ) and Marco Werner ( D) the 24 - hour race at Le Mans ( 24 Heures du Mans ) Audi R10 TDI on a fourth and fifth time.
