The Faroe Islands Football Championship 2003 was held in the first Deild said first Faroese league and overall was the 61st season. It started on May 16, 2003 and ended on October 5, 2003.

Up FS Vágar returned after a year back in the top flight. Champion was defending HB Tórshavn, which could thus win the title for the 17th time. Had to dismount the other hand, FS Vágar after a year of excellence.

In comparison to the previous season, the strike rate deteriorated to 3.14 per game, which meant the lowest average since 1993. The highest victory achieved KÍ Klaksvík with a 7-0 at home to Skala ÍF on 15 matchday. The highest-scoring matches, there was a 7:1 between B36 Tórshavn and KÍ Klaksvík on matchday six and a 4:4 between GÍ Gøta and EB / Streymur on 16th matchday.

Mode

In the first Deild each team to play 18 days played two games against each other. The point- best team in the season-ending stable as champions this league, the last team got down to the 2nd Deild, level on points, the direct comparison decided. The ninth- place finisher also had to unsubscribe to the whereabouts in the first Deild two relegation matches against the runner-up of the second Deild.

Course of the season

Cup decision

On the first match days HB Tórshavn commuted by alternating wins and draws between the first and second place. From the fifth Round of the standings could initially be kept. On the eighth matchday came to duel with B36 Tórshavn, which was lost with 1:2, after which the lead changed the winner. B36 took out the first three games, just one point and found himself in ninth place again. This was followed by seven wins in a row after the 1-3 defeat at EB / Streymur on 11 Matchday had to square one again but at HB Torshavn be delivered. This gave themselves no more nakedness and stayed until the end of the season unbeaten. The decision for the championship fell in the penultimate round. The runner- B36 Tórshavn lost the direct duel against HB with 0:2 and thus they were prematurely laid as a master, as a direct comparison against only three points away team of B68 Toftir for HB spoke.

Relegation battle

Skala ÍF was from the start in last place, losing the first seven games. The first win was the eighth game against FS Vágar 4-1. Then again followed seven consecutive defeats. After the 0:7 away defeat against KÍ Klaksvík on 15th matchday of the residue amounted to eight runners VB Vágur unassailable ten points of the relegation place was five points away. Now Skala launched a series and won all the subsequent three games. On the final day EB / Streymur could be defeated with 3:2, whereby the relegation place could be achieved. In the 50th minute the team was back through an own goal by Bent Djurhuus with 1:2, before Bogi Gregersen and Jónhard Frederiksberg the sheet still applied by hits in the 64th and 73rd minute.

FS Vágar dismissed after the first six games on a balance of two wins, one draw and three defeats, which was enough to seventh place in the table. Over the next nine games, no other point gain could be achieved down to a single draw, so the team again took place on the ninth since the eleventh playground. Not until the 16th Round could be recovered with a 3-1 win against KÍ Klaksvík. The projection on the last placed Skala ÍF at this time was five points in the next game clashed both teams. A draw would have FS Vágar been enough to maintain the position until the end of the season, but the game was lost on home soil with 3:4. Moreover, since the last game at NSÍ Runavík was lost with 0:2 and Skala won the same time, the descent thus stable. In the 58th minute FS Vágar fell by Andy Ó. Olsen is in arrears, but even a draw was not enough to avoid relegation due to the direct comparison.

VB Vágur however, which occupied some time in eighth place, was able to save final with a 1-0 win against B68 Toftir. The winning goal did not come until the 85th minute through Birgir Jørgensen, however, would have received under the direct comparison FS Vágar must win for a loss of VB to still reach eighth place can.

National Cup

In the National Cup B36 Tórshavn won 3-1 against GÍ Gøta. Master HB Tórshavn difference in the quarter-finals with 1:3 against NSÍ Runavík.

European Cup

2003/ 04 played HB Tórshavn as a champion of last year in qualifying for the Champions League against FBK Kaunas ( Lithuania) and separated with 0:1 and 1:4 from.

NSÍ Runavík played as cup winners of the previous year in the qualification for the UEFA Cup and retired there against Lyn Oslo ( Norway) with 1:3 and 0:6 from.

KÍ Klaksvík also played in the qualification for the UEFA Cup and was eliminated against Molde FK (Norway ) with 0:2 and 0:4.

GÍ Gøta took part in the UEFA Intertoto Cup. The first leg in the first round at FC Dacia Chisinau (Moldova ) has been lost with 1:4, the return in Gøta ended 0:1.
