2004 Tour de France, Stage 10 to Stage 20#Stage 20 .28Montereau-Fault-Yonne to Paris.2C July 25.29

The twentieth stage was 163 kilometers from Montereau to Paris on the Avenue des Champs- Élysées. As always, the final stage of the Tour de France was a tour d' honneur. The stage included a mountain in the 4th category, and two sprints at kilometer driven 87 and 116 in Paris were eight laps on the Champs- Élysées.

Shortly after the start, there was an attack by the Italians Simeoni, who did not stick to the unofficial law that is not attacked on the final leg on the first leg half. In addition to the attack of Simeoni there was a headway of the French national hero Richard Virenque and Thomas Voeckler.

On the Champs- Élysées attacked ten drivers: Sunderland, Merckx, Voeckler, Bettini, Flecha, Jalabert, Pereiro, Gutierre, Astarloza and Kroon. These drivers were able to drive out a maximum lead of 40 seconds. As the field reached the group, Paolo Bettini attacked from the leading group; the other riders of the group could follow him and thus remove them from the big box. Karsten Kroon of the Dutch Rabobank team broke away from the lead group, but fell immediately afterwards back again. After a few kilometers the group, however, was captured. Shortly before the last lap attacked Juan Antonio Flecha from the Spanish Fassa Bortolo team, but he was again sent off.

In the mass sprint of the Belgian Tom Boonen won against Jean- Patrick Nazon and Danilo Hondo. Erik Zabel was fifth.
