2010–11 Football League Trophy

The Football League Trophy 2010/11, also known under the name of the main sponsor Johnstone's Paint Trophy was the 27th edition of this cup competition for teams in the Football League One and Football League Two, the third and fourth division in English football. 48 teams took part in the Games to the Football League Trophy 2010/11, which began on 31 August 2010 and ended in London on April 3, 2011 with the final between FC Brentford and Carlisle United at Wembley Stadium, Carlisle United won 1-0.

The Football League Trophy is played in rounds. It shall participate only teams in the Football League One and Football League Two, and selected invited clubs in the Conference National. They play in the knockout system in simple games in a northern and southern region (Northern and Southern Section) their winners. The two regional winners then occur at Wembley against each other to determine the trophy winner.

First round

The draw of the first round took place on August 14, 2010. Sixteen teams were given a bye to the second round due to the unfavorable number of participating clubs. The remaining 32 teams were divided into four geographical regions ( Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast ) within the two sections.

Bye: Northern section: Bradford City, Burton Albion, Bury FC, Carlisle United, Crewe Alexandra, Huddersfield Town, Peterborough United, Stockport County

Southern section: Barnet FC, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham Town, Colchester United, Hereford United, Milton Keynes Dons, Plymouth Argyle, Wycombe Wanderers.

Second Round

The drawing of the second round was held on September 4, 2010. Given that Accrington Stanley in the first round in the game against the Tranmere Rovers employing an optical ineligible player, they withdrew from the tournament back later and Tranmere Rovers came back into the tournament.

Regions Finale

The finals of the Northern and Southern Section serve as the semi-finals for the whole competition. They were decided in a return match.
