2012 Tour of Flanders
The 96th cycling classic Tour of Flanders takes place on 1 April 2012. The one-day race is part of the UCI World Tour 2012 and within this the eighth race. The race distance is 254.4 km.
The route
Compared to last year the route for the rest of 2012 has been significantly changed. So the goal of the race is no longer in Meerbeke near Brussels, but in Oudenaarde. Not included in the program is also the legendary Wall of Geraardsbergen. Instead, the participants have to pass the Oude Kwaremont and Patersberg total of three times.
The race course
The race was won by the Belgian Tom Boonen, who had previously won the UCI World Tour race E3 Prize Flanders and Gent- Wevelgem and at that time led the individual classification of the UCI World Tour. Boonen had previously done on the last climb together with Filippo Pozzato and Alessandro Ballan and beat them in the sprint.
