(7268) Chigorin

( 7268 ) Chigorin is an asteroid of the inner main belt, which was discovered by the Ukrainian- Soviet astronomer Ljudmyla Schurawlowa on October 3, 1972 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj (IAU code 095). Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid, there had been already in Indiana on November 26, 1962, the provisional designation 1962 WW at the Goethe Link Observatory.

The Italian astronomer Vincenzo Zappalà defined in a 1995 publication ( et al. ) Of seniority ( 7268 ) Chigorin the Flora family, a large group of asteroids that is named after ( 8) flora. Asteroids of this family move in an orbital resonance of 4:9 with the planet Mars around the Sun. The group is also called Ariadne family after the asteroid (43 ) Ariadne.

( 7268 ) Chigorin was on 9 March 2001 after the Russian chess player Mikhail Chigorin ( 1850-1908, English transcription from Russian Mikhail Chigorin ) named, who was one of the leading chess master of his era and contributed significantly to the spread of chess in Russia.
