A Night at the Opera is the seventh studio album by the German metal band Blind Guardian. It was published on 1 March 2002 and taken from October 2000 to December 2001 in the Twilight Hall Studios ( Germany ) and mixed.

Background

The music was written by Olbrich and Kürsch at The Soul Forged Thomen Stauch was also involved and Harvest of Sorrow was composed by Siepen, Kürsch and upsetting. The choir took over for over 10 years for Blind Guardian assets Rolf Köhler, Thomas Hackmann, Olaf Senkbeil and Billy King, who received their backing vocals at Hammer Music Studios. As a bassist Oliver Holzwarth involved in the album, which is already to be heard on the previous album Nightfall in Middle-Earth. Matthias Wiesner also participated again as a keyboardist. The cover picture recorded this time Paul Raymond Gregory.

The song lyrics are on the album no longer so concerned about Tolkien's literature. Harvest of Sorrow Only takes up this issue. Rather, biblical texts, as in Precious Jerusalem and Sadly Sings Destiny and the Greek epic Iliad in And Then There Was Silence and Under the Ice be treated. Divine Punishment is about the life of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and his madness.

The album title is a reference to Queens eponymous album A Night at the Opera from 1975. Queens music practiced according to Marcus Siepen a great influence on the band.
