The song was written by Charmelle Cofield Ron Lawrence, and Beyonce Knowles. The song was recorded in New York City and is like Check on It included on the soundtrack album to the film. In addition, A Woman Like Me is also included on their second studio album B'Day. The melody for the song was produced with a PVG, piano and guitars.

Music Video

The DVD version of the film contains an exclusive complete rendition of the song. The video shows Beyoncé Knowles as Xania, in two scenes from the film The Pink Panther, she sings on a small stage with two dancers.
