A. Raja

A. Raja ( Raja Andimuthu; Tamil. ஆ ராசா; born May 10, 1963 in Velur, Perambalur district, Tamil Nadu ) is an Indian politician of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regional party (DMK). He served in 1999-2010 various ministerial posts in the pan- Indian governments of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh. On 14 November 2010 he was forced to resign because of a corruption scandal from his post as Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

Biography

A. Raja was born on 10 May 1963 at the village Velur in today's Perambalur district of the state of Tamil Nadu. He belongs to the Dalit ( untouchables ). He graduated with a masters in law. During his studies Raja came into contact with politics and joined the DMK on. He is regarded as a talented speaker and has a great interest in Tamil literature, which is why he was soon traded in the party as a rising star.

1996 A. Raja was in the band reserved for Dalit candidates constituency Perambalur, first elected as DMK candidate in the Lok Sabha, the total Indian Parliament. In the election in 1998 he lost the mandate to the AIADMK candidate, but the constituency regained upon re- election in 1999 and defend at the next election in 2004. After the constituency Perambalur was converted into a general constituency, Raja came in the 2009 elections successfully in the area reserved for Dalit candidates Nilgiris constituency.

From 1999 to 2003 A. Raja was minister for rural development and health in the BJP -led government Atal Bihari Vajpayee. After the DMK had resigned from the electoral alliance with the BJP and the ruling coalition led by the Congress Party connected, Raja was founded in 2004 under Environment Minister Manmohan Singh. As the DMK leaders Dayanidhi Maran in 2007 resigned from the post of Minister of Communications and Information Technology, A. Corruption scandal

A. Raja resigned on November 14, 2010 from his post as Minister of Communications and Information Technology back. Resignation was due to the upcoming investigation of a scandal over the award of 2G mobile licenses in India. As Minister of Communications, the award of licenses fell in his area. On February 2, 2011 A. Raja was arrested along with two officials from his ministry because of the 2G scandal of the Indian federal police CBI. After more than a year in prison Raja was released on 15 May 2012 on bail.
