Aardvark Jazz Orchestra

The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra is an American Big Band.

Band History

The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra was founded in 1973 by trumpeter and composer Mark Harvey, who teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The repertoire of the orchestra includes traditional title of the Duke Ellington Orchestra as well as original compositions by Mark Harvey. At a fixed strain of musicians, including Taylor Ho Bynum and Bill Lowe, met with various productions Jaki Byard as guests, Harvey Cox, Ken Filiano, Jimmy Giuffre, Vinny Golia, Sheila Jordan, Frank London, Paul Lovens, Rajesh Mehta, Tomas Ulrich and Jane Wang. The ensemble won several awards, including 2000 The Independent Music Award for Best Jazz Song ( Scamology ) and presented a series of shots before, including the Christmas album An Aardvark Christmas and an album with excerpts from Duke Ellington's sacred concerts.
