History

Aberchirder was created in 1764 as a planned community of Alexander Gordon of Auchintoul, which is recognizable by the regular road today. To the south lies the Tower House Kinnairdy Castle, the oldest part of the early 15th century date. It was owned by the Clan Innes, who ruled over the lands. The building is now listed as a monument of the highest category A.

In the year 1881 1358 inhabitants were counted in Aberchirder. While the population had dropped to 1961 to 754, it rose steadily until 2001 on last 1149.
