Aberystwyth and Welsh Coast Railway

The Aberystwith and Welsh Coast Railway was a British railway company in Wales. The spelling " Aberystwith " instead of Aberystwyth was contemporary.

The company was founded on July 22, 1861 built a railway line along the coast of Wales from Aberystwyth on Tywyn, Barmouth, Porthmadog Pwllheli after. In Machynlleth Newtown and Machynlleth connect to the Railway was created. On July 27, 1862, the Company received a concession for the construction of the railway from Barmouth to Dolgellau. On July 3, 1865, section of Barmouth was opened to Penmaenpool, for a further construction there was a lack of money, however. The rest of the route was thus built in 1870 by Bala and Dolgelly Railway. The operation was, however, by the Cambrian Railways.

The original plan to build a bridge over the Dyfi estuary had to be abandoned because you vorfand no stable ground. The first section between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth could be opened on 23 June 1864. On the entire route to Pwllheli, the company was incorporated on 10 October 1867.

Already on August 5, 1866 took over the Cambrian Railways, the Aberystwith and Welsh Coast Railway.
